Hi guys! It's been raining and raining and raining here in New York City! I'm actually excited about the rain, because I've been getting to wear my new green rainboots. Aren't they awesome? I love stomping in puddles. I like to pretend the gutters on my street are streams and that I'm a miner, panning for gold.
Since it's been raining, I haven't been out to the playground for several days. I've been playing Playmobil all morning! Even though I don't play with it very often, I love my dollhouse Playmobil. Sadly, I have lost one of my favorite little characters. I asked Mama if she could find him again for me on eBay, but he is very, very expensive now. This is what he looks like:
I really wish I knew where he was. I know it's really silly, but I miss the little guy! Mama says that I have lots and lots of Playmobil and that I shouldn't be sad that I lost just one little boy.
Have you ever lost a toy that you loved? What did you do?
P.S. Do you like my new hairbows? I got them at Target.
Thank you everyone for all your nice messages about my encounter with the new girl. I haven't seen her outside since, but I am going to be friendly to her if I run into her. Maybe if we do become friends, I can tell her that my family might look differently, but we are still a family and we love each other no matter what.
Today, before ballet class, I went outside to play and wait for the mailman. I was waiting for a special package! There were no other kids my age outside, because most of them were probably in school. Now that it's springtime, the grass is growing so quickly! I wonder when our building's caretaker will mow our little grassy area?
Eventually, the mailman arrived. I ran right up to him and he told me he had my package! It was my new Junior Ranger badge for doing the World Heritage program! World Heritage Sites are like National Parks and Monuments, only they are all over the world. Several of America's National Parks are also World Heritage Sites. The National Park Service has a great kids' website where you can earn this badge by learning about the World Heritage Program around the world. Click here to go to the site- you can earn a badge too!
I love doing Junior Ranger programs! Doesn't my outfit look kind of like a park service outfit? I think it does! When I grow up, I am going to be a Park Ranger or a ballet dancer. I would love to teach other kids about the natural and cultural wonders in the United States. Do you have something you are passionate about? What do you think you'll be when you grow up?
P.S. I know the pink poufs in my hair don't match my clothes. What's a good place to get little hair scrunchies for when I wear teddy bear buns?
Hi everyone! Today is a super rainy day. I was going to play outside since I don't have ballet class on Mondays, but it was so wet! I went to the library and when I got home, I was so cold and wet that I was shivering. I decided to put on my pajamas early and play with our cat, Chaika.
So here's what happened yesterday. I was hiding in the bush playing Harriet the Spy when a new girl I don't know walked by. She moved here recently, and I've seen her playing outside, but I don't know her name. She was walking with a boy- maybe her brother? and she told him "Inky lives in this building. She's Asian, but she doesn't match her mom. Her mom is white. Isn't that weird?" Then she kept walking.
I didn't know what to say! My mom's ancestors come from Europe, so she is white. My mama's ancestors are American Indians, so she's Native. But my ancestors are from eastern Siberia, so I'm Asian. I don't look like my parents because I'm adopted. I felt upset that the new girl thought it was weird that I don't look like my parents. I stayed hidden in the bush until the new girl and the boy walked past, and then I ran into my building.
Do you think there is something wrong with me? I love my parents, but I don't want anyone to think I'm weird because I don't match them. I wanted to try to make friends with the new girl, but now I'm nervous. What do you think I should do?
Hi everyone! How was your weekend? It was sunny and warm in New York- the perfect beginning to spring! After my ballet class on Saturday morning, I showered and got dressed to play outside! Living in New York City, I don't have a yard. There are parks near my house, but one of the best places to play as a city kid is the stoop!
What's a stoop? It's your porch! New York City used to be called New Amsterdam, because it was founded by the Dutch. Stoop comes from the old Dutch word for porch. Since there isn't a lot of space to play in my family's apartment, I like to bring my toys outdoors. I got these new Playmobil mermaids when my mom went to Europe last summer. What's the Dutch word for mermaid? It's meermin!
Last year, my mom went to Germany for work and I stayed home with my mama. Since I had to stay behind, my mom got me some really cool treats. The mermaids didn't come out in the United States until this year, but my mom got them for me early since they were out already in Germany. This year, there are new Mongolian warriors on the German Playmobil site. What if they make a Genghis Khan theme? That would be awesome!
Anyway, after I played with my new mermaids, I climbed into a bush next to our building and watched everyone walking by. When I was sick, Sophie Amélie suggested I read Harriet the Spy. I checked it out from the library and I've been reading it on the subway to and from ballet class. Anyway, Harriet gave me the idea to spy on my neighbors! It was really fun, until something happened that made me a little upset.
Would you guys want to hear about what happened, or should I keep my blog about only fun kid stuff?
The best gifts in the world are homemade. I know it's hard to remember that when you want a Wii or the latest Ugly Doll, but it's true. I made friends with two really cool dolls, Melody and Lizzy. They live in California and their talent is quilting! I told them about how I've always wanted a special quilt, made just for me, and they told me they'd make me one! In exchange, I am going to make them lots of custom t-shirts.
The first thing I had to do was draw my design. I made up the design for my quilt a long time ago, but I had never actually drawn it out. Can you see what's in the drawing? It's Sputnik, the first artificial satellite, with Vostok, the Soviet space capsule. It's flying above the earth! After I drew my design, I sent it in the mail to Melody and Lizzy.
Melody and Lizzy took my drawing and used it to cut out the pieces of fabric they needed to make the quilt. They showed me different fabrics and let me pick which ones I liked best. When everything was ready, the sewed the quilt together. You can't see it, but the back of the quilt is midnight blue with stars- just like the night sky.
Today there was a big, soft package in the mail for me. I never imagined that Melody and Lizzy would finish so quickly, so I was stunned when I ripped open the package and found this awesome quilt! I put it on my bed right away. Isn't it fabulous? It is the perfect #1 excellent fabulous wonderful quilt of quilts! It has Sputnik! It has Vostok! It even has the British Isles! Wow!
I love my new quilt so, so much. Melody and Lizzy are wonderful new friends. I can't believe they actually made my quilt- and that it turned out even better than I had imagined it would. Aren't they amazing quilters? Thank you so much Melody and Lizzy! You rock!
Have you ever gotten a special present that was made just for you?
Hi everyone! It's been a long, long week. I'm still home sick, but I'm feeling a lot better. It felt deliciously naughty to sleep in and not go to my Saturday ballet class! Today, I decided to do my hair in teddy bear buns and do math homework. Right after I started a lesson on probability, Yeva showed up!
Yeva has been away for 2 months getting eye surgery. This is a picture I took of her tonight with her twin sister, Olya. Sometimes we call Olya "LyaLya," but that can be hard for Americans to say. Can you tell what's different between them? Even though they are twins, they are not identical.
That's right, Yeva has hazel eyes! (Olya has brown eyes.) Doesn't she look beautiful? I will try to take some better pictures later. I'm so happy she's home!
But, before I head off to bed, it's time to announce the winner of Giveaway II: The Vacation Outfit! Everyone, please congratulate:
Sabine is a French girl from Lille, France who loves cheese! Congratulations Sabine! Please e-mail me at email@example.com with your address.
Well, that's all for tonight. Keep any eye on my blog, because I'll be posting my next giveaway very soon. Bye!
Guess what? I actually won the AG Playthings Academy Award for Best Actor! Thank you to everyone who voted for me. It was pretty exciting to hear the news, even though I'm still home sick.
Thank you everyone for suggesting books and movies for me. I read Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfeild. Thanks for the suggestion Piper! I haven't seen the movie yet, but it has Emma Watson in it, who plays Hermione in the Harry Potter movies.
Ninette, I love Swiss Family Robinson! Wouldn't it be awesome to live in a treehouse like that?
I hope everyone has a great weekend! I'm going to extend the entry period for the Vacation Outfit giveaway until Sunday at noon, so let your friends know! Also, cross your fingers that I feel better soon.
I'm sick! It's so unfair. Last night when Sonali was over, my throat was feeling a little scratchy. When I woke up this morning, it really hurt to talk and swallow. Plus, my ears feel like there are balloons inside them.
I had to go to the doctor and she told me I have a bad cold and an ear infection. I was really excited because I love that pink medicine they give you for ear infections, but the doctor told me I was old enough to start taking pills. I felt so nervous, because I've never swallowed a pill before. Luckily, it went down just fine with some water.
I'll probably be stuck in bed for a few days. My mom was really nice and showed me how to watch Netflix movies on my laptop. I'm watching Free Willy! Ouch, my ears hurt when I laugh!
Do you have any favorite books or movies you think I should read or watch while I'm sick?
It's March 8! Do you know which holiday we celebrate today? It's International Women's Day! March 8 is like Mother's Day and Valentine's Day all rolled into one. It's very popular in Russia, which is why my family celebrates- I'm Russian! I received cards from my parents. Aren't they nice? I also received a new Playmobil fairy to go with my Playmobil Mushroom Guy.
Then, Sonali came over. I wanted to take a picture of her wearing the next Giveaway Outfit. I used my new digital camera from my best friend Violet's parents. It has a timer feature, but it took me a little while to figure out how to use it, which explains the photo above!
So this is the Giveaway for this week! It's called the Vacation Outfit and it's the new Purchase with Purchase at American Girl Place.
It has a white t-shirt with pretty flowers and a little island scene. There are also denim shorts, a colorful ribbon belt, and pretty shoes.

Today at noon, I had a special job to do- pick the winner of the Pink Hearts Outfit Giveaway! I get an e-mail every time someone comments, so I had a long list of entries and several entries from people who earned multiple entries by making more comments. Once I had the total number of all my entries, I entered them into a random number generator, random.org.
It turns out the winner is:
Claire R. !!
I looked at Claire's profile and she also loves ballet and American Girl dolls. Congratulations Claire! Please have your parent e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org with your address so I can mail you your prize!
Thanks to everyone who entered. I'm still celebrating my move to the new location, so I will start taking entries for the next giveaway in a special post on Monday. Here's the outfit you can win next week:
To celebrate my new location at Blogger, I decided to do a few giveaways.
The first thing up is this pink outfit that my friend Lakshmi is modeling (You will get a new, sealed outfit, not the one that Lakshmi has on.) It's an American Girl Place exclusive which includes pink shoes, a pink shirt, and a darker pink skirt.
To enter to win the outfit, just leave me a comment. I'll stop accepting comments this Friday at noon, when I will pick and announce the winner of the outfit.

One side effect of moving to Blogger is that I lost all my comments that I had when I was on Livejournal. You can earn extra entries to my giveaway by commenting on my old posts! Just add the date of the post you commented on to your entry. Each additional comment earns you another chance to win!
