Room Tour, 2015 edition!

Inky's Room Tour 2015

Hello hello! A follower of my Instagram recently requested an updated room tour, so I decided to take some newer photos of my room.  This is me, standing in my bedroom.  I have a pretty big bedroom for a kid living in New York City, so I do know I'm lucky.  Anyway, get ready to see my bedroom!

Inky's Room Tour 2015

This is my desk, where I do my computering and studying.  I am homeschooled, which means I don't go to a traditional school.   You can see some of my collections- my American Girl books on the shelves above my desk, my notebooks for schoolwork on my desk, and lots of silly little trinkets everywhere! I love Uglydolls, so they are all over my room.

Right here you can see my art area and nightstand! I have my own easel.  Can you tell who I painted? It's Ice Bat, the Uglydoll! There are some dust bunnies on my floor. Oops! On my nightstand I keep my textbooks and some more books.  Two of my favorite books ever are on top of the nightstand- Swallows and Amazons and The Giver.  I also have my special Totoro clock.

Here is my bed. I have two beds, but I usually sleep on this one.  Both of my beds have special space-themed quilts that my mama's friend made just for me.  The Uglydoll pillow is from my friend Piper!

This is my special shelf above my bed.  I have my tape recorder, my special ikon from Ukraine, two red panda toys, and an mp3 player.

The other shelf above my bed also has lots of special stuff.  I have my name banner, lots of little figurines, a ViewMaster from Piper, some snowglobes from zoos I've visited, and a special cartoon that David Horvath, one of the creators of Uglydolls, drew just for me! Oh yeah- I have some ballet posters too.

Here are some more pieces of my snowglobe and Uglydoll collections.

This is my cat tree. It belongs to my cat, Chaika!  The green pillows match one of the pillows on my bed, which is nice, I think.

My other bed is for visitors to sleep on when they come to stay overnight.  Technically both of the beds have trundles, but I took out the mattresses so that I could store my toys in them.  Chaika really likes to suck on the ears of my stuffed animals and bite off their feet and tails, so I decided to keep them stored away.

And that's all! Thanks for visiting me and my bedroom! Do you have your own room? How did you decorate it?

Goodbye Summer at Jacob Riis Beach!

Inky @ Jacob Riis Beach

Hello my friends! I had a wonderful time at Jacob Riis Beach the other day. The beach is part of the Gateway National Recreation Area, which makes it part of the National Park System!  My family usually goes to the beach over Labor Day weekend.   This year, we went on the Sunday before Labor Day since Labor Day is usually really busy.  I love Riis Beach because it is full of two mom families like mine. When we got there, I put on my little floaty thing and ran into the water. I love the beach in September because the water is finally warm!

After I tired myself out swimming, I decided to build a sandcastle.  I like to build a lot of little towers using my pail.  Another fun thing I used to do is dig a giant hole, but the lifeguards don't let kids do that anymore because sometimes the sand caves in and kids get hurt! Be careful in the sand, okay?

Inky @ Jacob Riis Beach

I also like to walk up and down the sand looking for cool shells.  Of course I forgot to take a photo of the shells I found! My real goal is finding beach glass, but I haven't found any for a long time.

Finally, as the sun was setting, I got Mom to play catch with me! We have a big, colorful beach ball. It's kind of hard to play catch with it when it is windy, because it will blow off to the side instead of where you want it to go.

When it was time to go, I felt pretty bummed. It was probably my last beach trip of 2015. I love going to the beach. I have been in other seasons, but it is not quite as fun since it gets pretty cold! I'm glad we got to to the beach a few times this summer! I had tons of fun playing in the sand and water.

Have you ever been to the beach? What was it like?

Hanging out with Violet!

Hanging with Violetka

Remember how I said Violet was away at camp during my trip to Utah?  On my last day in Utah, I heard a familiar voice calling my name from the backyard after breakfast. I ran outside and there was my best friend in the whole world, Violetka!! I was so, so excited.  We hadn't seen each other in months and months!

Hanging with Violetka

We had so much to discuss! We sat in the shade (it was so, so hot!) and talked about her trip to camp, my trip to Utah, and all the other things in the whole wide world.  Even though we don't see each other often, when we do, it's like all our time apart disappears and it's just the two of us.

Hanging with Violetka

One of the special things about Salt Lake City is that it is the home of the LDS temple! I had been years ago, but Violet suggested we go again. It was such a hot, hot day! Still, we had a great time in Temple Square. The workers were preparing the holiday season by hanging fairy lights in the trees, even though it was almost 100F outside! Isn't the temple cool? It's so big! We couldn't go inside because we're not LDS, but we still enjoyed our visit.

Hanging with Violetka

Temple Square is full of beautiful flower beds, so we had to pose in front of one.  We were chattering away the whole time! There is nothing like spending a day with your best, best friend.

Hanging with Violetka

Too soon, it was time for us to leave downtown so I could pack my bag.  I had to fly home to New York.  I gave Violet and her parents huge hugs and said I hoped I would be back soon.   Visiting Utah was the perfect way to finish off my summer, before I got back to my schoolwork.

Do you have a best friend? What do you like to do together?

An afternoon at Violet's Cabin!

Inky @ Violet's Cabin

Hello my friends! It was totally hard to be in Utah without my best friend, Violet.  While I was there, she was away at summer camp.  Luckily, her parents were so nice as to include me on a trip to their cabin! I was so excited because Violet has told me all about it.   Still, in all my trips to Utah, I'd never been.

Inky @ Violet's Cabin

Near the cabin is this incredible meadow!  It is surrounded by beautiful aspens.  It felt so magical to be there, even though I really wished Violet could have been there too.  It was a hot day and I loved exploring like a little brownie fairy girl in the wild!

Inky @ Violet's Cabin

There was a really, really cool stream in the meadow! Violet's mama said I could play in it.  The water was shallow and cold.  I stepped very carefully and played in the water. It was so fun! Of course a brownie fairy girl would have her very own stream.

Inky @ Violet's Cabin

The stream was awesome! I loved all the smooth rocks at the bottom and all the big rocks poking up from the water that I could hop between.  I really, really wish that I could have a stream in my courtyard back home in New York, but I think it would probably be really gross and polluted.

Inky @ Violet's Cabin

After I played in the stream for ages and ages, I decided I really needed a rest.  I found a spot with no nettles among some pretty yellow flowers (Does anyone know what the flowers are called?) and took a little rest.  I daydreamed about shrinking really small and living in the big, wide meadow and riding on the back of a dragonfly.

Inky @ Violet's Cabin

Soon enough, I woke up (the sun was really too bright to nap!) from my rest.  My shoes were finally dry so I walked up and down the road that cuts through the middle of the meadow.  It was such a beautiful day to be exploring.  I heard Mama and Violet's parents calling me to lunch- yum!

Inky @ Violet's Cabin

After lunch and lots of playing in the meadow, the sun started to set over the mountains.  We would be leaving to go back to the house soon, but I had a little while left to play.  Violet's mom told me that I could go back to the stream and look for little frogs! How could I resist? I ran down the path to the stream and began my search.

Inky @ Violet's Cabin

Success! I found a little froggy! It was so tiny and cute! I had Mama snap this photo before he jumped off my hand back into the stream.  I was so excited that the frog let me catch him.  It reminded me of the time Violet and I found a hermit crab on Corn Hill Beach on Cape Cod.

Inky @ Violet's Cabin

Finally it was time to go home to Violet's family's house.  I scrambled through the aspen forest to the car back at the cabin. On the way, I paused to make a mountain wish- I wished that the next time I came to Utah, Violet would be home from camp and able to explore the mountain meadow with me!

Have you ever spent time at a cabin? Was it on the beach? in the mountains? the forest?

Red Butte Garden

Inky @ Red Butte Garden

Hello my friends!  One of the places my friend Violet has been telling me about for ages is Red Butte Garden.  I was so excited to get to visit it while I was in Utah! It was so beautiful.  There were lovely green plants, colorful flowers, and lots of fountains and water features.

Inky @ Red Butte Garden

I was happy to spend an afternoon there.  Look at the pretty flowers behind me! Do you know what kind they are? I don't, but I bet Violet could have told me.  She is very smart when it comes to botany.

Inky @ Red Butte Garden

This is not a great photo, but I like it because it reminds me of a cool part of Red Butte! There is a little deck where you can buy food to feed the koi and ducks!  So cool, right?

Inky @ Red Butte Garden

I had a great time walking through the gardens.  The colors were so vivid! I hope that I can go back sometime during another season so I can see what Red Butte looks like then.

Have you ever been to a garden or arboretum? What was it like?
